Two of our children were celebrating birthdays this week, so we started off with cake and singing!
Then it was off for a trip to the pier. It was a blustery day, but we took the 1.3 mile walk to the end and ate a packed lunch in the fresh air! The main event of the day was a really fascinating talk by the RNLI. We were shown where the volunteers prepare themselves on a call out and the relevance of the types of clothing were explained to us. Everyone was invited to try on a life jacket, had a look at the helmet and felt the weight of the outer suit. The dangers of water was talked about and what you should do if you found yourself unexpectedly in trouble in the sea. The question and answer sessions afterwards was really good and I think everyone learnt a lot.
The group was then led into the area that houses two of the lifeboats and anecdotal stories were told.
At the end of the session, RNLI Saving Lives badges were given out and it was commented on how well behaved our children were.
